A PERFECT EDUCATIONAL LEAP, FROM ARCMAP SOFTWARE TO ARCGIS PRO, A NECESSARY RENEWAL IN THE MASTER'S PROGRAM IN GEOMATICS
Main Article Content
Abstract
From the first edition of the Master's Program in Geomatics in 2000, which comprised 105 hours of instruction, to its current tenth edition with 288 hours, the subject of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been part of the mandatory module "Digital Cartography and Geographic Information Systems." The curriculum for this subject has consistently included the proprietary software MapInfo and ArcGIS, as well as the open-source software QGIS, encouraging the use of the latest versions in practical classes to convey the new technological tools applicable to the capture, editing, and processing of information. However, ArcGIS Pro, the new version of ArcGIS released in 2015, has not been incorporated into the curriculum of the aforementioned module. Therefore, it is urgent to study and implement it immediately, as ArcGIS will no longer receive updates after 2026 and will gradually become obsolete.
