Abstract

In this work, the didactic-general and didactic-specialized aspects of the provincial gazetteer are theoretically based on two dimensions: as a literary work of general cultural use and as a particular bibliographic document, from which condition, it assumes the character of a didactic resource in the training of geosciences professionals, both university students and middle-level technicians. This dictionary is also defended as a tool for the development of logical thinking, by facilitating the promotion of processes such as reflection, analysis, synthesis and comparison. It is also essential for the formation of the value of identity, in the whole perspective of the geographical method of scale (local, national, regional and global). The gazetteer of the province of Las Tunas has the whole universe of standardized toponyms for the province, in its two levels of approval (national and provincial). Each toponym refers to the two classifications recognized by the National Commission of Geographic Names, the nominar or families and the nominal or motivation. Also are included the toponyms of all surface and subway river basins, protected areas and, because of their geographic-spatial and identity interest, historic sites and monuments. The main author of this paper also offers a well-argued proposal of nomenclature for two families of toponyms that, up to now, are not recognized, neither in the regulatory nor in the specialized literature: appronyms (for protected areas) and basonyms (for watersheds).
