Abstract

The 3D documentation of heritage works is becoming increasingly essential for the execution of maintenance, restoration and conservation processes, which has a high historical and cultural value to maintain the heritage of our ancestors and the architectural beauty of the structures and buildings that are part of the heritage of our country.

At the present time in Cuba, the analysis of buildings and heritage works is affected by the time spent in carrying out the surveys and by the lack of technical documentation containing a procedure for three-dimensional modeling of buildings, heritage, architectural and engineering works from point clouds, therefore, the formulation of the scientific problem is given because the processes of three-dimensional documentation of heritage do not take into account the joint use of laser technologies that allow the subsequent processes of maintenance, restoration and conservation in an efficient and accurate manner.

This paper shows the results achieved in the research developed in this area; a procedure is proposed for 3D modeling from point clouds generated with the Terrestrial Laser Scanner (ELT)z technology, allowing the creation of 3D models of heritage works, and giving the possibility of performing analysis on these models, as well as the generation of floor plans and elevations, sections and even obtaining the important "As Built" plans, which will provide an increase in efficiency and productivity and reduction of time in the completion of the work.
